If you will work for a Canadian Company within US, then you need a US work visa (H-1B for example). However, in this process you will not satisfy the residency requirements for your Canadian PR. Please note that you need to live in Canada for at least 2 out of 5 year period to maintain the PR.
Actually, if you work for a Canadian company the time spent outside Canada will count as if you were in Canada. So, you will still be able to meet the 2/5 requirement. But you need to check what are the conditions, I know that you can't just create your own company and stay there for example. Check the requirements.
On the US side, what visa will you be working on ? H1B ? If you like to stay in US, why not gained Canadian citizenship and work on TN, which is 3 years now (maybe more in the future) and very easy ?

Similar thing happened to my AP notice. I got all the notices properly including EAD. But my AP approval notice was sent back by USPS as undeliverable. USCIS sent the AP back to my lawyer along with USPS undeliverbale notice without any upate on the online status. Lawyer sent whole package back to me. I could see that address is correct. I have placed recepient names in the mail box long back so thats not the issue. USPS undeliverable notice was pasted on top of the returned mail. That was strange.
As I enquired further one of my friend wife FP notice also sent back like that , luckily his lawyer also got another one.
I am going to meet USPS personnel soon to find out what exactly the issue .

I may not be able to answer your question directly, but I faced the same dilemma about wife's H1. I got her H1 changed to H4 by applying I-539. This process is very easy and it too my wife 2 months to get the approval.
If you are going out of country and try to re-enter US, with COS, it may not be an easy thing right now. It is getting tough these days, since it involves Visa stamp as well and they might ask too many documents from you and your husband. Even though you guys are legal and have got all documents, still it might be a trouble.
My opinion would be to apply for I-539 and after that reciept, you don't have to work. You will get approval much easier (H1 to H4) compared to H1 to H1 transfer.

Many people here believe that if a person on H4 has an approved H-1B w/ COS from Oct 1, and that person does not really work starting from Oct 1, then he/she falls out-of-status. In our case, my wife is on H4 currently and I am on H-1B, and both of us have AOS/EAD pending.
Now, if she works for 1 month and decides to take a break, and stay home on EAD, is she still out-of-status?
I must be missing something here; because I was under the impression that if a person (derivative, and not primary applicant) has EAD, then it does not matter if he/she works or not. Then how is it that the person can fall out-of-status he/she does not go to work from Oct 1 even though H-1B w/ COS is approved?

Our checks didn't get cashed , neither we Got Receipt Notice .

I think NSC does process cases even though they are not within the priority date. This way they can pre-adjudicate cases. By doing this they can quickly issue GC when the date moves ahead.
During processing if they have any questions, they could issue a RFE.

with the level of competence and intelligence shown by the USCIS.. u think they will care if some one changes jobs.. i dont think so.. desparate times need desparate measures and we should not be worried about these non-sense at all
